Feeding hermit crabs costs about $5 to $15 per month, even less if you share fresh food from your kitchen. They eat tiny amounts, and most of their favorite foods are things you already have at home. But the real number depends on how many crabs you keep and what you feed them, and that…
Yes, hermit crabs make noise, and the first time you hear it, you will not believe a tiny crab in a shell made that sound. They produce a chirping, croaking, or clicking noise owners describe as a cricket chirp crossed with a tiny frog croak, called stridulation. Hold a chirping crab and you can feel…
The safest way to get a hermit crab out of its shell is to never force it. Let it come out on its own, with a shallow tepid soak to encourage it if needed. A crab grips its shell so tightly that pulling can seriously injure or kill it, so it is worth asking why…
Most care guides give a flat no. The real picture is messier than that, and it is worth knowing before you panic about the one crab sitting alone in your tank right now. Do Hermit Crabs Need Company? What pet stores never mention is everything that comes with that. Real food, real humidity, real companions, and a commitment…
A hermit crab itself costs $3 to $25. That is almost never the real number people end up spending. The tank setup is where the money actually goes, and it catches most new owners off guard. Here is the full breakdown, from the crab to the setup to what it costs every month after. How…
There are over 800 species of hermit crabs worldwide, but only a handful are kept as pets. The 6 most common are the Caribbean, Ecuadorian, Strawberry, Indo, Ruggie, and Australian.
